Argan is surrounded by a court of unscrupulous and ignorant doctors who take advantage of his weaknesses. A tyrannical father and obsessive hypochondriac, he is determined to marry his daughter Angélique to the nephew of his trusted physician, Monsieur Purgon. But Angélique is in love with the young Cléante and refuses to give in, even at the risk of being sent to a convent. Her odious stepmother, Béline, only fuels the conflict. It will take the determination and clever tricks of the maid Toinette to finally unmask everyone…
Written by Molière when he was already seriously ill, his final play is nevertheless one of his most brilliant comedies, as if he had gathered all the resources of his genius to reach the peak of his art.
A timeless masterpiece of French theatre.
