MEZIPATRA | Barbara Forever

She first grabbed a camera at twenty-seven. A few years later, she got on her motorcycle and started filming a world in which lesbian women had been barely visible. Throughout her career, Barbara Hammer became a pioneer of queer cinema and made over eighty films about desire, body, sex, love, and her own life.In her feature debut, Brydie O’Connor delves into the vast archive of this exceptional filmmaker and compiles a portrait as playful, daring and intimate as Hammer herself. Her films, previously unseen footage, her own voice, and memories of her life partner Florrie Burke came together in a vibrant collage exploring lesbian history, art, ageing, and a relentless appetite for life. Barbara Forever world-premiered at Sundance, where it won the Editing Award in the U.S. Documentary Competition, and went on to receive the Teddy Award at Berlinale.
