MEZIPATRA | Chica checa

Nothing much changes in the countryside. The house is crumbling, the TV is on, and Zdena spends her days between the post office and the garden. When her ninety-year-old mother Věra reveals her dying wish to have the Czech singer Helena Vondráčková visit her and sing for her, Zdena’s son Lukáš decides to return from France and fulfil his beloved grandma’s wish. But his family back home knows far from everything about his life abroad. It’s because Lukáš is not a successful economist, but makes his living as the drag queen Chica Checa. After years of hiding, his secret finally comes to light. Mother and son slowly realize that it might be high time to stop playing the roles others have assigned them. Chica Checa is a bittersweet tragicomedy about family. loneliness, and the courage to be yourself. Even when the whole village is watching.
