NT Live: The Fifth Step

Olivier Award winner Jack Lowden (Slow Horses, Dunkirk) and Emmy and BAFTA Award winner Martin Freeman (The Hobbit, The Office, Sherlock) star in a new, critically acclaimed and subversively funny play by David Ireland.

After years of attending a 12-step programme for Alcoholics Anonymous, James becomes a sponsor to newcomer Luka. The two grow closer over coffee, sharing stories and building a fragile friendship based on their shared experiences. But as Luka approaches Step Five – the moment of confession – dangerous truths begin to emerge, threatening the trust on which both men’s recovery depends.

This provocative and entertaining production, filmed live at Soho Place in London’s West End, is directed by Finn den Hertog, who is also known as an actor, notably for his role in the TV series Outlander.
