Life in an illegal Romani settlement in Spain is under the imminent threat of demolition. Through the eyes of an adolescent boy, an unstable home is transformed into a colorful kingdom where reality blends with magic.
Toni, a Romani boy, lives in an improvised dwelling in the vast illegal settlement of La Cañada Real on the outskirts of Madrid. The slow routines of the local community are overshadowed by the constant threat of eviction, as demolition companies increasingly move in to dismantle the fragile shanty towns. While some residents opt for the relative security of anonymous city housing, others refuse to abandon their homes and land.
The film reflects on what “home” means across generations, while uncovering moments of magic in everyday life. For the young protagonist, the community’s dilemma becomes a rite of passage and a crossing between childhood and adulthood, past and future
