The Misanthrope portrays a society freed from parental and religious constraints, where the veneer of social conventions begins to crack when desire emerges. Driven to the limit by Alceste’s uncompromising nature, as he is ready to renounce all forms of social life, the characters reveal, over the course of a single day, the contradictions of human nature, as the heart is ruled by feelings beyond the reach of reason.
International screenings supported by the Institut français.
