MEZIPATRA | Iván & Hadoum
(Espagne, Allemagne, Belgique, 2026, 104 min)De Ian de la Rosa
As part of the Mezipatra Film Festival
In Spanish, Arabic
With Czech, English subtitles
Iván toils at a vegetable plant to provide for his family. His only hope of a better life is a promotion to manager, which his boss promised. Hold on just a little longer and his loved ones will never have to worry about going hungry. And for the first time ever, Iván wants to think of his own happiness, too. It comes in the form of his quirky colleague Hadoum, who likes him unconditionally, even if she once knew him as a girl. Iván’s family, however, does not support their relationship and on top of that, Hadoum and the other women in packaging begin organising a strike. Iván has to decide whether to follow his heart or to prioritise his family’s material security. Debuting director Ian de la Rosa sets this story of forbidden love in the Spanish countryside where acceptance of different identities and cultures is far from given. The film won the prestigious Teddy Award for Best Feature Film at this year’s Berlinale.
