Étienne lives for his work. Long days behind the wheel of his truck pass in tranquillity, much like the surrounding landscape. But this quiet routine is unexpectedly disrupted when he meets Bartosz, who turns Étienne’s emotional world upside down like a head-on collision. His freewheeling, Kerouackian life on the road suddenly turns into claustrophobic loneliness, leaving little room for intimacy. Does professional success always have to come at the expense of personal happiness? And what options do we have for escaping the endless cycle of work when we lack a stable home? Part meticulously researched psychological study, part romantic road movie, the film offers an authentic glimpse into the world of long-haul transport while quietly drawing attention to broader social issues. The natural performances and the raw aesthetic of the highway landscape also impressed this year’s Cannes jury, where the film won the Queer Palm Revelation Award.
